LOCAL COMMUNITY GRANTS SHARE IN $90,000

Sharon Bird today visited the Green Connect community farm to announce funding of $10,000 to upgrade facilities at the farm under the Stronger Communities Programme – Round 3.

The social enterprise farm helps to support jobs and employment pathways, particularly for former refugees and young people as well as growing fair food and engaging in the local community.

Last financial year Green Connect:

  • Grew and distributed 13,754 kilograms of local, seasonal, chemical free food
  • Created jobs and employment pathways for 114 former refugees and young people
  • Had 1,469 volunteer visits from the broader community

Sharon Bird said that these grants would make a big difference for the 10 local sporting and community groups.

“These local community groups are run by loyal volunteers who devote time to their local clubs and organisations to provide many different services to our area.  They often struggle to raise funds to keep facilities up to standard and available to the community.

“Funding for small projects such as refurbishment of halls and kitchens can make a huge difference for community groups and help them to provide better services.

“It is an absolute pleasure to be here with Emmanuel today to see the difference a new access point to the farm will make.  This will help to encourage more people to engage with the farm and better connect people and their community.
