Labor has today announced it will reject Tony Abbott’s attack on Medicare through the back door GP Tax. We will move to disallow the regulations in the Senate.
We call on local Liberal MPs Anne Sudmalis, Angus Taylor and Senator Concietta Feravanti Wells to join their state Liberal counterpart Gareth Ward in telling the Prime Minister to reverse the regulations.
Even Queensland Premier Campbell Newman has distanced himself from the sneaky changes to Medicare rebates. Local state MPs should follow his lead and that of Mr Ward by writing to Tony Abbott expressing their dismay at this latest cruel cut.
By slashing Medicare rebates, Tony Abbott is forcing doctors to hike fees and end bulk-billing.
Labor will seek to disallow:
- The cut in the Medicare rebate from $37.05 to $16.95 which comes into effect on January 19 for patients who see their GPs for 10 minutes or less
- The $5 across the board Medicare rebate cut for non-concessional patients due to come into effect from July 1.
Not one cent of Tony Abbott’s cuts to health is being returned to Medicare.
Shadow Assistant Minister for Health and Member for Throsby, Stephen Jones, and Labor candidate for Kiama, Glenn Kolomeitz, will be taking questions on this latest attack on Medicare this afternoon at Kiama Hospital.
When: 2.30pm, Thursday 15th January.
Who: Stephen Jones and Glenn Kotomeitz.
Where: Kiama Hospital - outside the front entrance, Bonaira Street, Kiama.
