Federal Member for Cunningham, Sharon Bird and Federal Member for Throsby, Stephen Jones, welcomed today’s news that Jindal have approved the provision of a $50 million facility to Gujarat NRE to provide immediate short term funding to pay unpaid employee wages and salaries and increase the Company’s working capital and meet its ongoing funding needs.
Ms Bird and Mr Jones said that they had been working closely with the local CFMEU branch on issues as requested and had attended the meetings of employees to ensure they could provide assistance in individual circumstances where possible.
“This has made us very aware of the stress and strain the employers have been under,” said Ms Bird, “so today’s announcement is positive news for the hundreds of workers and their families who have been doing it extremely tough over the past six weeks.”
“This has been a very difficult time for local workers and the local economy, said Mr Jones.
“It’s now in everyone’s best interest to see the company return to full operations so they can trade their way out of difficulty as soon as possible.”
