Local Members Sharon Bird and Stephen Jones today encouraged the local community to apply for funding for local projects under the Stronger Regions Fund.
“In their first Budget, the Abbott Government cut $250 million from the last round of Regional Development Australia Fund and a further $900 million from vital financial assistance grants,” Sharon Bird said.
“By the time this money starts to be distributed from the Stronger Regions Fund, it will be almost two years since regional Australia received any funding thanks to the Abbott Government.
“The Abbott Government has used its Community Development Grants Programme as a slush fund in their marginal seats with over 80 per cent of funding being allocated to seats held by the Abbott Government,” Stephen Jones said.
“Sharon and I encourage the local community in the Illawarra to put in applications under the new program. Local Government and incorporated not-for-profit organisations are eligible to apply for grants of between $20,000 and $10 million. The funding needs to be matched in cash on at least a dollar for dollar basis and the funded part of the project needs to be completed on or before 31 December 2019.
