Sharon Bird on Wednesday, 17 May, visited the Illawarra Dragon Boat Club and Dragons Abreast Illawarra to announce funding of $92,921 for community groups in Cunningham.

The grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 are used by organisations to help out with the cost of much needed equipment, training and transport.

The Illawarra Dragon Boat Club will receive $4,500 for computer, electronic, audio and video equipment and assist with fuel costs.

Dragons Abreast Illawarra will receive $3,990 for computer, office, electronic, audio and video equipment, assistance with fuel costs, kitchen appliances and storage.

“I am so pleased to be able to announce the Volunteer Grants.  I receive great feedback from local community groups about just how much they help small local groups to be able to provide community, sporting and cultural services for our area,” Sharon Bird said.

“Local volunteers play a vital role in our community and these grants enable them to be able to purchase small equipment or help with costs such as transport.  Our local surf clubs have used this funding to purchase safety equipment, sporting clubs have purchased sporting gear and many local groups have purchased computers.
