Tony Abbott today flagged that local public schools would be targeted for funding cuts under a Liberal Government.
In a speech to the Independent Schools Education Forum he said:
"... there is no question of injustice to public schools here. If anything, the injustice is the other way.”
Member for Cunningham Ms Bird said that this would pitch local public and independent schools against each other for funding.
"Labor's plan will mean that all schools will see their funding continue to increase," Mr Jones said.
"The message is loud and clear from Tony Abbott – all public schools are on his hit list.
"That means that Tony Abbott will rip out funding for our local public schools - destroying the chances of local students to get a better education.
"The choice is clear - Labor will deliver more funding for all schools, public and independent.
"If Tony Abbott is elected Prime Minister - he will hit our local public schools with big funding cuts."
Mr Jones said that Tony Abbott has already promised almost $3 billion in cuts to education.
"Trades Training Centres, Computers in Schools and teacher quality programs are already on Tony Abbott's hit list," Ms Bird said.
"Now we know that our local public schools are next."
