Member for Cunningham, Sharon Bird MP, today welcomed the announcement that the Wollongong Science Centre has received funding from the Federal Government for National Science Week 2013.
The Wollongong Science Centre Laser Spectacular is one of 42 successful projects to receive a total of $500 000 in Government funding from the Inspiring Australia program for National Science Week.
“I am thrilled that the Wollongong Science Centre has received $4,000 from the Federal Government to enable them to stage an event for National Science Week in Cunningham,” Ms Bird said.
“On behalf of the Australian Government, I would like to congratulate the Wollongong Science Centre and look forward to their Laser Spectacular in August as part of National Science Week.”
The Centre’s project will create a spectacular outdoor laser show which will involve informative demonstrations as well as an outdoor laser concert. The Science Centre is currently undertaking major redevelopment to allow more use of its outdoor space. This project will make use of this space by projecting onto an external wall of the Science Centre.
National Science Week, held in August each year, showcases the latest in scientific research through innovative engagement with the community.
Last year, more than 1.4 million people participated in over 1,000 National Science Week events across Australia.
