Sporting facilities upgrade for cool kids

Sharon Bird today visited the Bulli PCYC to announce funding of $7,694 under Round 2 of the Stronger Communities Program (SCP) for the upgrade of the sporting courts on the upper level of the Bulli PCYC.

The Club has not had any significant investment available to upgrade these facilities for many years.  The boxing and gymnastics rooms have very high levels of activity but are almost unusable during the summer months due to excessive heat due to poor climate control.

This has meant that the Club has had to relocate some classes to the lower levels and program breaks to allow children to cool down.

An upgrade to climate control along with significant repair works to walls and ceilings will present a more modern facility which will help to allow greater participation in gymnastics, tumbling, boxing, kick-boxing, wrestling and women’s self defence programs.

Sharon Bird said that the improvements would help Bulli PCYC to continue to provide their extensive range of fun and safe activities for young people.

“For almost 80 years Bulli PCYC has been an active part of the community in the northern suburbs.  The fundraising burden for many organisations like the PCYC means that upgrade works can be difficult to facilitate.

“I am really pleased to announce this funding to ensure that the Club can continue their mission to get young people active and help to develop skills, character and leadership.

The PCYC also focuses on the reduction of crime by and against young people and on the promotion of citizenship within the community.
