Federal Member for Cunningham, Sharon Bird, and Federal Member for Throsby, Stephen Jones, yesterday wrote to the new Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Hon Warren Truss MP, seeking clarification on critical infrastructure commitments in the Illawarra.
1 - $42 million for the upgrade of Mt Ousley Road
2 - $50 million seed funding for the Maldon-Dombarton Rail Link
3 - $7.4 million for the Home of Football at Dapto
“We are seeking to clarify the position of the new Government towards these major projects,” Sharon Bird said.
“Tony Abbott said during his visit to the Illawarra in June that the Maldon-Dombarton Rail project was an ‘urban rail project’ and Warren Truss told the Australian Financial Review that ‘obviously projects underway will continue, but we reserve the right to reprioritise others…’. We need clarification as to whether both projects will be funded,” Sharon Bird said.
“We also need clarification on the Home of Football announced during the election. There has been overwhelming support from the community for this new sporting facility which is to be built in a greenfields site in West Dapto and will provide a permanent, all-weather home for the most popular sport in the Illawarra,” Stephen Jones said.
Ms Bird and Mr Jones said that all of these projects are of great merit to the region and they look forward to the new Government confirming they will honour all of these commitments.
They will update residents of the Illawarra when they have a response from the Minister.
